About the Artist:

Her work reconnects us with the physical elements of the stage and costume, creating a unique and captivating experience for the viewer. She is an artist who captures movement through the use of non-traditional painting materials such as wood stains and fabric dyes.

-Synkroniciti Magazine 2020

Statement:

Through memory and documentation of movement captured by imbalanced parallels of the performer and the audience.

We can experience this memory through gesture and abstraction. The movement becomes captured through non-traditional painting materials such as wood stains and fabric dyes which reconnect us with the physical elements of the “stage” and “costume”.

The act of becoming transforms through the interactions of the physical nature of dance and the documentary aspects of an artist. The various levels of inclusion of the body become present through the illusion of peeling, staining, and bruising, layered through various materials that disappeared from the audience’s view when experiencing a ballet.

How do we document a “stage” through painting?

What is left behind?

BIO:

I come from a background of utilizing dance and art as a way of communicating. From a very young age I decided that art was going to be my path.

After 12+ years of classical ballet it was time to decide where I wanted to go to college. Art was always my outlet, drawing animals, landscapes, my family members, whatever inspired me. I loved drawing and painting in both oil and acrylic. I always had art supplies around waiting to be used.

In 2008 I moved to Lubbock, TX to start my undergraduate career in Studio Art at Texas Tech University. At this time I was still deciding where my professional career as an artist would take me. I fell in love with my professors and knew that college level teaching was my calling.

Then, in 2012 after completing my BFA in Studio Art, I continued on with my masters at Texas Tech University and in 2015, graduated with my MFA in Painting and a secondary in Printmaking.

In 2017 I accepted an artist in residence at CASP, Charles Adams Studio Project. Here I would spend the next 6 years inviting my audience to experience my process and expand on what it meant to be a performance artist. I now found a way to bridge the gap between my ballet background and my current position as a painter. This was also the year I welcomed my son, Luke into the world and my life as an artist changed immediately with the new wonderful title as "mother".

For my thesis exhibition I collaborated with Flatlands Dance Theatre, this was the beginning of my collaborative artistic career. After graduation I taught at both Texas Tech and Lubbock Christian University as a part time Studio Instructor. I then accepted a position at South Plains College where I spent 7 years as an Assistant Professor of Fine Arts & Gallery Director. Here I would teach Painting, Design, Art History and Art Appreciation courses. I was also able to curate and install 20 plus exhibitions during my time as Gallery Director. In 2024 I decided to resign from South Plains College and continue my academic career teaching at Texas Tech University where I now teach foundational Drawing Studio courses.

From here I would carve out more time balancing my research and my academic commitments. I was introduced to Dr. Alice Anne Light from the music department at Texas Tech in 2021 and have been on a collaborative journey with her through opera and live performance of Cecil Price Walden, traveling to Ole Miss University, Kansas City, and University of North Florida. I have also worked alongside Flatlands Dance Theatre in multiple opportunities all while showcasing my paintings in various galleries and alternative spaces locally and nationally. In 2023 I was invited by the curator of the Center for Contemporary Art in Abilene, TX to have my first solo exhibition which displayed over 30 original new works of art and included a live performance during my opening collaborating with the Abilene Ballet Theatre.

I'm always interested in collaborating so please reach out!
